Kelly joined us at CrossFit Dwell last December. Fast forward seven months, and we are excited to hear from Kelly about her fitness journey! We asked her why she originally joined CrossFit Dwell. Here’s what she said:
“Since 2017, I had slowly developed what we affectionately referred to in my house as the CarsonWhitfield body. CarsonWhitfield was my tech consulting business and it involved many long hours of sitting at a desk on my computer, often at the expense of exercise and sleep. My first goal after selling the biz last year was personal care. I wanted to lose weight, tone up, and feel better. I had done CrossFit before and it was the most effective for me, but I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to do it again with some of the neck and back issues that had developed over recent years. “
Overcoming Initial Concerns about Returning to CrossFit
Her concerns are not unusual. We often hear from people who have suffered injuries in the past that they are worried they won’t be able to do CrossFit anymore. They often feel little hope of getting fit again. However, Kelly has a story that may give you some encouragement. We asked her if her experience at CrossFit Dwell was what she expected. She told us yes and no. She said:
“The exercises and format were familiar, of course, but it’s the people and the environment that have set it apart from my expectations and allowed me the space to work at my own pace and safely manage my injuries without giving up on my goals.”
The CrossFit Dwell Community: A Key to Success
One of the most significant aspects of Kelly’s journey has been the community at CrossFit Dwell. Our supportive and motivating environment has played a crucial role in her progress. Kelly mentioned that the people and the camaraderie have made a huge difference in her experience. She felt welcomed from day one, and the sense of community has kept her coming back, even on days when she didn’t feel like working out.
Our coaches are dedicated to helping each member achieve their personal best, taking into consideration any physical limitations or injuries. Kelly’s story is a testament to how individualized attention and a supportive environment can help overcome fears and physical challenges.
Celebrating Kelly’s Success
Kelly has seen great progress! She doesn’t particularly like to exercise. However, she has consistently come to 3-4 classes each week, and she joined our Summer Nutrition Challenge, led by our partners at Smart and Simple Nutrition. While she is frustrated to have to work around injuries, she has lost weight and toned up, has more energy and stamina. Plus, she sleeps better and has made new friends! All wins!!!
Looking Ahead: Future Goals
Kelly has her sights set on one day getting her first pull-ups, and we believe she will be able to do it. As she considers if she will need surgery in the future, she is doing everything she can to be strong to prepare for that possibility. We know being fit will help her to heal much quicker. Her determination and positive attitude are inspiring, and we are confident she will continue to achieve great things.
Advice for Newcomers Looking to Begin their Fitness Journey
We asked Kelly what advice she would give her past self or someone who is thinking about getting started at CrossFit Dwell. She said:
“Don’t think, just do. You can overthink yourself out of anything, so just put yourself on autopilot at first and watch what happens! And if any of it scares you – you won’t find a better environment or group of people to conquer your fears with than CFD.”
Kelly’s advice is a powerful reminder that taking the first step is often the hardest part. The supportive environment at CrossFit Dwell makes it easier to overcome initial fears and doubts. Many people feel intimidated by the idea of starting a new fitness routine, especially if they have past injuries or haven’t been active for a while. But Kelly’s journey shows that with the right support and mindset, it’s possible to make incredible progress.
