Jamie’s CrossFit Journey: How a Firefighter and Mom Built Strength and Confidence

When Jamie joined CrossFit Dwell in January 2023, she had two goals in mind: improve her physical fitness and find a supportive community. As a firefighter, she knew she needed to be strong—not just for herself but for the people she serves. Firefighting isn’t just a job; it’s a commitment to being prepared for any situation, no matter how physically demanding.

At the same time, Jamie is a mom of two and a wife. Balancing a high-intensity career with family life is no easy task, and she wanted a fitness routine that would push her, keep her accountable, and surround her with people who understood the importance of showing up—even on the hard days.

Now, more than two years later, Jamie has built more than strength—she’s built momentum, and she has no plans to slow down.

Finding More Than Expected

“I love that I love to go to my gym!” Jamie says.

She hoped her time at CrossFit Dwell would help her build strength and endurance, but what she found was so much more. The community, the encouragement, and the excitement of setting and hitting goals have kept her coming back.

But it wasn’t always easy.

“At first, sometimes simply showing up was a challenge,” she admits. “The ‘I don’t feel like going today’ self-talk was loud.”

That’s a struggle so many people face when starting their fitness journey. But Jamie has learned something valuable: you never regret a workout. Now, she knows that getting to the gym is the hardest part—once she’s there, she’s all in. And after every class, she leaves feeling stronger, more accomplished, and glad she showed up.

Now, making time for class isn’t something she has to convince herself to do. It’s a priority.

Two Years of Progress

One of Jamie’s proudest moments since joining CrossFit Dwell? Hitting her first big goal—a pull-up!

For so many athletes, pull-ups represent a major milestone. It’s a movement that demands a combination of strength, technique, and persistence. Jamie put in the work, stayed consistent, and finally got that first rep.

But she didn’t stop there.

Lately, she’s been stringing pull-ups together in workouts—something that once felt impossible.

And that’s not the only way she’s gotten stronger. Over the last few months, she’s been pushing heavier weights including two recent PRs on the squat clean and the deadlift

On top of all that, she’s feeling more confident in her form—small details like hand placement on push-ups that she never thought about before now make a difference in her movement and efficiency.

Jamie’s proudest achievement in the last three months? Feeling stronger.

There’s something powerful about realizing just how capable you are. Strength isn’t just about lifting heavier—it’s about seeing progress, moving with confidence, and knowing that your hard work is paying off.

What’s Next? Murph.

With all the progress she’s made, Jamie is ready for her next challenge.

  • 1-mile run
  • 100 pull-ups
  • 200 push-ups
  • 300 air squats
  • Another 1-mile run
  • (Optional: wearing a 20lb weighted vest)

It’s a test of endurance, strength, and mental toughness. But Jamie has already conquered her first pull-up and has been stringing them together in workouts. She’s already pushing heavier weights, building endurance, and showing up consistently.

She’s ready.

Advice for Anyone Thinking About Starting

If Jamie could go back and give advice to her past self—or to anyone considering joining CrossFit—her message would be simple:

Keep showing up. It only gets better.

The hardest part of any fitness journey is just getting started. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed, to doubt yourself, or to let that little voice in your head talk you out of showing up. But progress happens when you stay consistent, set goals, and surround yourself with the right people.

Jamie’s journey at CrossFit Dwell is proof of that. She’s gone from hoping to get a single pull-up to stringing them together, from lifting what felt heavy to pushing for heavier, and from wondering if she could handle Murph to deciding she’s going to do it.

And the best part? You can do it too.
