I recently had a chat with one of our amazing athletes at CrossFit Dwell, Evelyn, and I just had to share her story. If you’ve ever thought, “Maybe I’m too old to start CrossFit,” Evelyn’s journey might just change your mind. She’s in her 50s, and she’s stronger, faster, and more confident than ever. I know so many of you are like Evelyn—looking for a workout that’s both challenging and supportive. Trust me, it’s possible, and Evelyn is living proof it is never too late to start CrossFit.
Starting Fresh
Evelyn’s CrossFit journey began when she was living in Florida, and she fell in love with it. She had encouraging coaches and a fantastic community. So when she moved to Georgia, finding a new CrossFit home was a top priority. She wanted a place where she wouldn’t feel like she was competing with the younger athletes—somewhere the community was strong, and the workouts were designed for everyone. She found all of that with us at CrossFit Dwell.
Overcoming Injuries and Breaking Limits
Before she even stepped into our gym, Evelyn was dealing with some injuries. Honestly, she had pretty low expectations about how much strength she could build because she knew she’d have to modify some movements. But here’s where the magic happened: with the guidance of our incredible coaches, her form improved, and so did her strength. She’s now lifting more than she ever thought possible! Recently, she hit a personal record of a 110-pound hang clean and a 215-pound deadlift! How cool is that? And it doesn’t stop there—her endurance is better than ever. She’s knocking out burpees faster and has set new goals, like climbing the rope again and mastering kipping pull-ups.
Oh, and here’s something extra impressive: Evelyn competed in the Master’s division of the Festivus Games in April! She absolutely crushed it, showing herself (and all of us) that she’s got so much more in the tank than she realized.
Setbacks Don’t Define You
It hasn’t all been smooth sailing. Like many of us, Evelyn has had her share of setbacks. But she keeps pushing forward because she knows her health and strength are worth it. And the best part? No matter what comes up, whether it’s an injury or just a tough day, we’ve got her back. Our coaches are pros at modifying workouts so that she can still work hard while working smart.
Guess What—You Can Do CrossFit Too!
For those of you sitting at home thinking, “I wish I could do CrossFit,” guess what? You can! Evelyn will tell you the same thing. She says, “I’m no Dani Speegle or Laura Horvath” (shoutout to those CrossFit Games athletes!), “but I’m fit and loving the journey.” And honestly, that’s the ultimate goal.
