If you’re looking for a gym that helps you get stronger, fitter, and more confident while keeping workouts fun and adaptable, Shannon’s journey with CrossFit Dwell will inspire you. Her story reflects what is possible when you find a supportive community and stay committed to your fitness goals. Let’s celebrate her incredible progress during her first year with us!
Why Shannon Joined CrossFit Dwell
Shannon joined CrossFit Dwell in February 2024 after a decade-long hiatus from CrossFit. Ten years ago, she had enjoyed CrossFit workouts and loved how quickly her body responded to the training. When she moved to Kennesaw, she tried a different gym, but she found the workouts uninspiring and eventually lost interest.
She decided to give CrossFit Dwell a try, and it was exactly what she needed to keep her on the road to fitness. Shannon shared, “I just knew that I should be working with weights more than the prior gym, so I was pleased with the workouts.”
Progress and Achievements Over the Past Year
Shannon’s hard work and consistency over the past year have led to incredible results. She’s noticed significant muscle and strength development and takes pride in tracking her progress to see how far she’s come. Some of her most impressive milestones include:
- Deadlift: 300 pounds
- Back Squat: 210 pounds
- Bench Press: 145 pounds
These lifts were highlighted during CrossFit Dwell’s Supermeet in January, showcasing her strength and determination. Beyond the numbers, Shannon feels like she’s been making great strides and shared, “I’m feeling good and getting better.”
Staying Committed Despite Challenges
Consistency has been one of Shannon’s proudest achievements. In the past, she’d often convince herself she could work out at home, but she’d eventually fall off track. She would buy equipment, plan workouts, and set intentions, but without the accountability of a community, motivation would fade, and excuses would creep in. Finding a gym she genuinely enjoys has completely changed that cycle for her. Now, she looks forward to walking into CrossFit Dwell, where the energy, variety of workouts, and camaraderie make it easier to stick with her routine.
Even during the holidays and her busiest work weeks, Shannon prioritized her fitness. She embraced the structure and support of the gym, and it has made all the difference in her ability to stay consistent. Having a gym she enjoys being a part of keeps her showing up.. This shift from “I’ll do it later” to “I’m doing it now” has been important to her progress.
One of her biggest challenges was “cherry-picking” workouts. If a workout included something she wasn’t excited about—like running a mile—she’d skip it altogether. Over time, she realized she could scale workouts to fit her needs and skill level, which kept her showing up consistently and tackling her weaknesses.
Goals for the Future
Looking ahead, Shannon has set her sights on achieving two exciting goals:
- Rope Climbs: Mastering this skill is a big ambition for Shannon, and she’s determined to make it happen.
- Strict Pull-Ups: She’s working toward performing unassisted pull-ups, knowing the sense of accomplishment will be worth the effort.
Her progress so far proves she has what it takes to achieve these goals, and we can’t wait to see her celebrate these victories in the future.
Lessons Learned and Advice for Others
Reflecting on her journey, Shannon wishes she had begun CrossFit again earlier and embraced scaling from the beginning. Her advice to anyone considering starting their fitness journey? SCALE when necessary. You don’t have to skip workouts just because they seem challenging. Adjust them to your current abilities and keep showing up.
This mindset shift has been a game-changer for Shannon, allowing her to approach every workout with confidence and determination. She’s learned to balance pushing hard with listening to her body, which has helped her to enjoy her workouts even more and to stay consistent without the fear of overdoing it. By keeping this perspective, Shannon has been able to focus on the journey rather than just the destination, finding joy in her progress and growth along the way.
