September is here, and that means it’s time for our first STEPtember at CrossFit Dwell!
We’re inviting all our members and even non-members to join in on this simple but powerful challenge: track your steps throughout the month of September, stay consistent, and see just how much moving more can impact your health, energy, and fitness.
This challenge is simple: grab a step counter, a fitness watch, or even your phone, and record your steps each day. At the end of the month, add up all your steps and see how far you’ve gone! For our current members, you’ll even earn bonus stamps toward the 100 Workout Challenge. For non-members, this is a fun way to connect with us, get moving, and experience what our community is all about.
But first, let’s talk about why steps matter.
Why Steps Are So Important
When people hear “fitness,” they often think about lifting weights, running sprints, or doing burpees. And while those are all great, sometimes we forget about some of the most natural, effective, and accessible forms of movement: walking and running.
Here’s why getting more steps matters:
1. Steps Improve Heart Health
Walking and running both strengthen your heart and lungs. The more you move, the more you improve circulation and lower your risk of heart disease. Studies show that even adding 2,000–3,000 extra steps a day can have huge benefits for your heart.
2. Steps Boost Your Energy
Have you ever noticed how a short walk can wake you up better than a cup of coffee? Moving your body helps pump oxygen through your system, wakes up your muscles, and clears your mind. The more steps you take, the more energy you’ll have throughout the day.
3. Steps Help Manage Weight
Every step burns calories. You don’t need to run marathons to see results. Just moving more can help balance your energy and support your weight loss or maintenance goals. It’s a simple way to keep your metabolism active all day long.
4. Steps Protect Your Joints and Bones
Walking is a low-impact way to keep your joints moving and your bones strong. Especially as we age, staying mobile is one of the best ways to protect our independence and avoid stiffness or weakness.
5. Steps Are Good for Mental Health
Movement isn’t just physical. It is mental, too. Getting steps in, especially outside, can reduce stress, improve your mood, and even help you sleep better. Think of walking or jogging as free therapy!
6. Steps Add Up to Big Wins
The best part about walking is how it fits into everyday life. You don’t need to block off an hour at the gym. You can just take the stairs, park farther away, or walk around the block after dinner. Every step adds up, and by the end of STEPtember, you’ll see just how much you’ve accomplished.
How STEPtember Works at CrossFit Dwell
Joining STEPtember is easy. Here’s how to participate:
- Track your steps daily.
Use whatever tracking device works best for you. A few options are a smartwatch, fitness tracker, or phone. Steps can come from walking, running, or even skipping! - Record your total.
At the end of each day, write your steps down on the calendar we provided (or on your own paper if you’re joining us as a guest). - Add them up.
At the end of each week, total your steps. At the end of the month, total your steps for all of September. - Turn in your sheet.
If you’re a member, hand it to Lauren or Natalie. If you’re a non-member, you’re still welcome to track and celebrate with us online or by dropping in. - Celebrate!
Members get bonus stamps toward the 100 Workout Challenge, and everyone gets the satisfaction of seeing how far they’ve walked, run, or skipped during the month.
Why Join STEPtember with Us?
There are lots of step challenges out there, but at CrossFit Dwell, it’s about more than just numbers. It’s also about community.
- You’ll know you’re moving alongside other people who are chasing the same goal.
- You’ll stay motivated because you’re not doing it alone.
- You’ll see how small daily actions create real results.
And the best part? This challenge is for everyone. You don’t have to be a CrossFit athlete or even a gym member. Whether you’re already working out daily or just looking for a reason to move a little more, STEPtember is a fun, encouraging way to do it.
Tips to Get More Steps Every Day
If you’re worried about not hitting your step goals, here are some simple ways to sneak in more movement:
- Park farther away at the grocery store or office.
- Take a short walk during your lunch break.
- Do a lap around the block while you’re on the phone.
- Set a reminder to stand up and move every hour.
- Make evening walks part of your family routine.
- Dance in your kitchen while making dinner (yes, those steps count!).
The goal isn’t perfection. It is about building a habit that is really good for you! Every extra step is a step in the right direction.
Ready to Step Into STEPtember?
Movement doesn’t have to be complicated. It doesn’t have to involve fancy equipment or long workouts. Sometimes, it’s as simple as putting one foot in front of the other again and again.
That’s what STEPtember is all about: building a habit of daily movement, celebrating progress, and having fun along the way.
So whether you’re a member of CrossFit Dwell or you’ve never stepped inside our doors before, we’d love for you to join us. Track your steps, keep moving, and let’s see just how far we can go together.
